Allergies - If your child has any allergies, please make sure that we are aware of them. I especially need to know about food allergies and insect bite reactions.

Birthdays – Birthday celebrations are very important to children. If you choose to send to school a birthday treat (healthy treats are encouraged!), please only bring enough for our class (18 students), as students are not allowed to wander the halls to give out treats to other
Backpacks–Organization and Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence. Please help your child be organized by checking and cleaning out his/her backpack each night. It should be his/her responsibility to empty and pack their own backpack; however, these skills do not always come naturally to students and you will find that you may need to remind/check often, especially in the beginning of the year!
C is for clothing &communication
Clothing – students need to wear appropriate, comfortable clothing to school. Please put names on coats, backpacks and phy ed. shoes. Be sure to be thoughtful about footwear, as we do go out for recess everyday. Please pack an extra pair of socks for gym class if your child is wearing shoes without socks. In the winter months, please send appropriate outside clothing, such as snow pants, boots, hats and mittens, each day.

Discipline –All students at Fairview are expected to behave appropriately and respectfully in, and out, of the classroom. Third graders are responsible for their own actions and behavior, if for some reason this does not happen, a verbal warning will be given first and afterwards the student will be asked to Take a Break. While taking a break, students will remove themselves from the situation for as long, or as short, as they feel they need in order to get themselves together and act appropriately. Students will be asked to reflect on their behavior and this will be sent home for you to discuss with your child. Reflections are to be signed and returned to school the next day.

Please help your child build responsibility by making it his/her job to put the folder back in their backpack once it has been checked by you.

If there is a valid reason why the homework cannot be completed in the time given, parents are asked to write a note and an extension will be provided. If your child has trouble with his/her homework, please write me a note at the top of the page, so that I can spend some added time with your child. If you have written me a note, I will count their homework as complete for the day, even if the assignment isn’t entirely finished.
Completing homework on time is a good habit that when started early and supported by you, will last throughout your child’s academic career.
